Addu City Major Roads Project, Maldives

Addu City is located in the southernmost atoll of the Maldives and is also the second largest urban area in the Maldives, considering the size of the population. Addu City has 6 districts which consist of Hithadhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.

In December 2019, GKD was awarded the contract for Design and Build of Major Roads in Addu City, which included both new and resurfacing of roads in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo. The project has already been mobilized and work is underway.

The scope of works for the project includes:

  • Detailed Surveys and Designs of the proposed roads and storm water management system.
  • Carrying out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the project
  • Construction of Storm water management system and Sidewalk
  • Construction of Construction of Aggregate Base Course.
  • Construction of Asphalt Wearing Course including the application of prime coat.
  • Removal of the existing surface course and repairing of the base course for resurfacing.
  • Lowering / raising the existing utility junctions to the road surface levels.
  • Installations of road markings including lane lines, road shoulder lines, zebra crossings using thermoplastic paint.
  • Installation of Speed Breakers and road sign boards.
  • Installation of Road lights with foundations including installation of all electrical cables required for the road lighting.

Th. Thimarafushi Major Roads Project, Maldives

Thimarafushi is located in Th. Atoll of the Maldives. In 2013, the Government of Maldives constructed Thimarafushi Airport as part of the expanding air connectivity across all islands and is currently under operation.

In February 2020, GKD was awarded the contract for Design and Build of Th. Thimarafushi Major Roads. The project has already been mobilized and work is underway.

M. Iris 10 Storey Building, Maldives

M. Iris is located in an excellent business area in Male’, the capital city of the Maldives. Set out just opposite to the Justice Building in Male’, the project is one of the first real estate projects started by the company in the Maldives. With mainly commercial offices in the building, the construction works of the project was started in 2019. The building is expected to be fully completed in early 2021

Rainwater Harvesting Project, India

This project was established with the purpose of setting up Rainwater Harvesting in the T.I Cycles factory in Ambatuur, Chennai. The project objective was to setup a facility where rainwater could be collected instead of letting the rain to run off into the ground. This included setting up storage tanks for water collection purpose as well.

Thilafushi Access Road Project, Maldives

Thilafushi Access Road Project was built on the island of Thilafushi in Kaafu Atoll of the Maldives. This reclaimed artificial island which was once a natural lagoon known as “Thilafalhu”, is the product of repetitive loads of garbage from the capital island Male’, dumped and compacted into the lagoon since 1992. The island has served in various forms as a waste disposal operations hub since then. The Access Road Project tends to serve as an interconnecting road between the 2 phases of the island. The Access Road Project was materialized by GKD as a back to back EPC Sub-contract along with other project and client management services.

Kooddoo & Kudahuvadhoo Regional Airport Projects, Maldives

Kooddoo airport is a domestic airport located in the island of Kooddoo in Gaafu Alifu of the Maldives. The airport with a runway of 1.8km length is able to accommodate Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s as well. Dhaalu Airport is a domestic airport located on the island of Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu Atoll of the Maldives. The airport was built on reclaimed land as part of the island, with a runway of 1.8km length.

Maafaru International Airport Runway, Maldives

Client Name : Tuff Offshore Engineering Services Pte. Ltd.

Maafaru International Airport is developed on the island of Maafaru in Noonu Atoll of the Maldives. This airport is one of the most recent airports which was developed and opened in the Maldives. The project was fully funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and was a gift from ADFD to the Maldives. The airport lies on land with elevation of 2 metres above the sea level. With a 2.2km length and 40 metres width runway and fully international airport with VIP facilities the airport can handle Airbus A320s and the Boeing 737s. The airport is currently operated and managed by the government owned company, Island Aviation Services Limited.

The project was one of the most challenging projects that GKD has completed, as the company completed the works in a span of 5 months. This is the fastest and one of the best quality runways currently executed in the Maldives, as commended by the Authorities of Maldives.

Kulhudhuushi Regional Airport Runway, Maldives

Kulhudhuushi Regional Airport developed on the island of Kulhudhuushi in Haa Alifu Atoll of the Maldives, is one of the recent domestic airports which was developed and opened in 2019 in the Maldives. The airport resides on reclaimed land as part of the island, with an elevation of 1 meter above sea level. With a 1.2km length and 30 metres width runway, the airport is currently operated and managed by the government, under Regional Airports. GKD completed the project simultaneously while constructing Maafaru Airport.

Male’ Ring Road Project, Maldives

Male’ Ring Road Project was one of the first asphalting projects carried out in Male’, the capital city of Maldives. The project was carried out as part of the works done simultaneously along with the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge, which was constructed between Male’, Velana International Airport and Hulhumale’. The Ring Road is one of the most used roads in Male’ as it is part of the main road which circulates around the capital city and hence the name Ring Road was given.

Maafaru International Airport is developed on the island of Maafaru in Noonu Atoll of the Maldives. This airport is one of the most recent airports which was developed and opened in the Maldives. The project was fully funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and was a gift from ADFD to the Maldives. In order to construct the airport, approximately 150,000 sqm of vegetation was removed from the airport area.
